Couch to 5k is a programme designed to get you from the couch to running, walking or jogging 5K in 8 weeks. Spraoi agus Spórt have organised and delivered this top class exercise programme over the last 3 years. It starts in April each year and culminates in a 5K Fun Run in June.
We ensure that every participant has every chance of success as all the training and mentoring is delivered by experienced coaches from Inishowen AC and Get Fit with Charlie. We particularly encourage teenagers to get involved and to bring their Mum or Dad too!
This year we are bringing our programme to 5 towns across the Inishowen peninsula. Training is delivered twice weekly in each location. The cost of the programme is €60 for adults and €30 for teenagers aged 16-17 years.
Training is provided as follows:
Buncrana | meeting at the Shorefront | Monday & Thursday | at 6.30pm |
Carndonagh AM | meeting at Supervalu | Monday & Friday | at 9.30am |
Carndonagh PM | meeting at Supervalu | Tuesday & Friday | at 7.00pm |
Clonmany | meeting at the Church Carpark | Wednesday at 8.00pm | Sunday at 9.30am |
Malin | meeting at the Bingo Hall | Thursday at 7.00pm | Sunday at 11.15am |
Moville | meeting at the GAA Club | Wednesday at 6.30pm | Sunday at 10.00am |
Participants can take part in up to 3 sesssions weekly and they will be able to pick between times and locations, this provides great flexibility for all those taking part. A children’s activity class will be provided in Spraoi agus Spórt for children aged 3+ to coincide with the training sessions in Carndonagh. It is important that places in this class are booked in advance. The large number of training sessions available weekly and the availability of a children’s activity class is designed to ensure that those wishing to take part have every opportunity to do so.
Many individuals who have completed Couch to 5K programmes in the past are continuing to run: Anna McLaughlin a Couch to 5k graduate 3 years ago completed the Derry marathon in 2015; Lisa Sweeeny who is also a Couch to 5k graduate from 2013 completed Gaelforce North in 2015 and seven individuals who completed a Couch to 5K last year were able to complete the Ballyliffin Coastal Challenge – a 10 mile run over road and beach.
All the hard work will culminate in a 5k Fun Run/Walk/Jog on Friday 3rd June at 7.30pm in Carndonagh.
We would like to encourage as many people as possible to join us as we raise funds for our youth club for children with a disability.
