Spraoi’s Charitable Purpose and Objectives
Spraoi’s charitable purpose, as set out in its constitution, is to establish, promote and operate a community development programme in Carndonagh, Co. Donegal and its environs. This programme will act as a focus and catalyst for the local area, with a view to promoting cultural welfare and education. In particular, it will empower specific groups to effectively participate in a programme of personal and social development.

Our mission, strategic plan, objectives, programmes, and goals describe what we want to achieve. Our values describe how we want to go about our work.

Our strategy has adopted four overarching strategic objectives under four themes as follows:
To provide an environment which promotes and contributes to improved mental health outcomes.
• Providing peer support.
• Providing physical health initiatives.
• Reducing loneliness through activities and volunteering.

To provide an environment which is inclusive and promotes tolerance and diversity.
• Providing a Social Inclusion Worker to support the needs of those with a disability and/or autism.
• Working with Tusla, the HSE, DEIS schools and the Home School Completion Liaison Officer to target low income and disadvantaged families.

To provide activities which boost participation in STEAM & Irish language activities. • Providing high-end digital technology to all in Inishowen through FabLab Inishowen. • Providing science, technology, engineering, art, and math-based activities (STEAM). • Providing several classes through the Irish language, supported by Foras na Gaeilge. • Providing adult education classes through Donegal ETB. To contribute to the Rural Regeneration of our area • To continue to develop vacant buildings, build on our existing service provision and provide employment. • To provide a positive and enriching work environment for all the staff, volunteers and facilitators who contribute so positively to our organisation. • To collaborate with local businesses and organisations to deliver additional services locally. • To ensure that Spraoi agus Spórt continues to be a sustainable and viable organisation.

Spraoi agus Spórt is committed to establishing and maintaining the highest standards of Governance. We believe that it is essential to set and demonstrate high levels of transparency and accountability to all our stakeholders, supporters and funders.

We have worked on behalf of our local community since 2010. We have built up and maintained a high level of public trust that we value and do not take for granted.

Spraoi agus Spórt works with more than 1,500 families each year. We are an organisation with an annual expenditure of €200,000 (2015).

Funding and Finances Less than 50% of our overall income comes from Grants and State funding. To continue providing our essential services, we need to raise the remaining income through fundraising efforts and class fees.

Spraoi agus Spórt publishes its financial accounts annually. They are prepared in accordance with the most up to date accounting standards, FRS 102 (2015) and with UK and Irish GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) (2014).

We also comply with the requirements set down by

  • The Charities Regulatory Authority. Our number is 20077105.
  • We are compliant with Charities SORP.
  • The Charities Governance Code.
  • The Statement of Guiding Principles for Fundraising created by the organisation Irish Charities Tax Reform, ICTR.

Board The Board of Directors have appointed McLaughlin McGonigle, Accountants, Saint Helen’s, St Orans Road, Ardaravan, Buncrana, Co. Donegal as auditors of Spraoi agus Spórt for 2017.

Spraoi agus Spórt’s Board Members are volunteer members of the organisation and receive no remuneration. They donate freely of their time, skills and experience.

Everyone in Spraoi agus Spórt is 100% committed and passionate about the work they do on behalf of their families.
