Christmas Sustainable Shopping Spraoi!

Shopping Spraoi returns to the Carndonagh Garden Centre, sowing “seeds of change” with a festive preloved fashion pop-up this Saturday.

The sustainable shopping event runs from 12pm to 3pm.  It will showcase affordable preloved fashion and promote simple ways to reduce waste during the Christmas season.

The pop-up is funded by the ChangeMakers Donegal Seeds of Change Grant through the Inishowen Development Partnership. It also partners with Donegal ETB, Self Help Africa, Trócaire, and Concern Worldwide, supported by Irish Aid.

Project Co-ordinator Caoimhe Doherty says the aim is to link local action in Donegal with global efforts to tackle fast fashion and climate challenges.

Visitors can expect quality preloved clothing, swap opportunities, repair and upcycling demonstrations, and live music. The event is designed to give young people and families a low-cost, practical way to refresh their wardrobes.

Caoimhe says the focus is on community learning and positive change. “Shopping Spraoi helps people make small, practical changes that reduce waste. It shows that sustainable fashion is easy, affordable and fun.”

She added that events like this support global citizenship goals. “Fast fashion is a global problem, but local action matters. By swapping clothes, we cut waste and build awareness in our community.”

Everyone is welcome to attend, whether swapping, shopping, or exploring sustainable options for the first time.

The sustainable fashion pop-up project is part of Spraoi agus Spórt’s circular economy hub, Síoraí.  The hub aims primarily to reduce waste and dumping, by extending the lifetime and use of materials and products. It involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling as much as possible, for as long as possible.

The developing hub is already home to Síoraí Clothing and Accessories and Síoraí Home, which sells homewares, toys and books and Síoraí Furniture which sells revamped preloved furniture.
